What Is Implant Treatment?
Implant treatment is a dental procedure in which artificial teeth are placed on titanium screws inserted into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. Implants act like natural tooth roots, biologically integrating with the jawbone to provide a long-lasting and stable foundation for dental restorations.
This method delivers results that are closest to natural teeth, both aesthetically and functionally. It can be applied to a single missing tooth or complete tooth loss, restoring everyday functions such as chewing, speaking, and smiling.
There are several techniques used in implant treatment, with the most common being All-on-Four, All-on-Six, and Immediate-Load (Immediate) Implants.
All-on-Four Implant
The All-on-Four implant method allows for a fixed prosthesis using only four implants in patients who are completely edentulous. This technique is particularly suitable for patients with limited bone structure or those who wish to avoid extensive surgical procedures.
In All-on-Four treatment, two implants are placed vertically in the front region, while the two posterior implants are angled. This placement improves implant stability in the jawbone and provides a strong foundation for the fixed prosthesis.
Advantages include a shorter treatment time, reduced need for bone grafts, and the ability for patients to receive temporary teeth on the same day. With proper care, the prosthesis can last for many years.
All-on-Six Implant
The All-on-Six implant technique involves placing six implants in the jaw to support a fixed prosthesis. Using more implants than the All-on-Four system allows for a more balanced distribution of chewing forces.
This method is ideal for patients with good bone density who desire stronger chewing performance. Prostheses supported by six implants provide excellent aesthetic results and long-term durability.
All-on-Six implants can be placed in a single session, with temporary teeth applied immediately, followed by permanent prostheses. With regular check-ups and maintenance, these prostheses remain functional and durable for many years.
Immediate (Immediate-Load) Implant
The Immediate-Load implant method involves placing the implant on the same day as tooth extraction. This approach shortens treatment time and eliminates the period without teeth.
With immediate-load implants, temporary teeth are placed right after implant insertion. This allows patients to regain both aesthetics and function on the same day. However, this method requires adequate jawbone density and good overall health to be suitable.
Advantages include fast results, prevention of bone loss, and immediate restoration of smile aesthetics.
Advantages of Implant Treatment
Provides a natural look and feel similar to real teeth
Effectively restores chewing function
Does not damage adjacent teeth
Long-lasting and durable
Stimulates the jawbone, preventing bone loss
Post-Implant Care
The success of implant treatment depends not only on the surgical procedure but also on proper post-treatment care. Patients should follow these recommendations:
Eat soft foods during the first few days
Maintain meticulous oral hygiene
Attend regular dental check-ups
Limit smoking and alcohol, as they can negatively affect the healing process
